Celebrate the Low Countries’ rich art heritage in the region’s most acclaimed museums, meeting Dr. Orenstein’s longtime friends along the way. Start with a pre-cruise overnight stay in Amsterdam, where you will experience the Rijksmuseum’s historic exhibition devoted to Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. During the 19th century, Claude Monet and his contemporaries flocked to picturesque Normandy, leaving their studios, setting up their easels outdoors, and capturing the beautiful light and coast views of this region, giving rise to a new way of painting that became known as Impressionism. Go behind the scenes of Normandy’s renowned museums, artistic landmarks, and villages, where many of the movement’s leading artists found inspiration. Begin in Auvers-sur-Oise, the beautifully well-preserved hamlet where Vincent van Gogh produced more than 80 paintings in the last two months of his life. In the country’s lush Sacred Valley, go behind the scenes of the Inca Empire’s glorious royal estates, masterpieces of architecture and landscape design, including Machu Picchu, the Incas’ UNESCO-listed, 15th-century winter palace.
