About MetPublications

MetPublications is an online portal to The Metropolitan Museum of Art's comprehensive art publishing program. It features over 1700 titles, including books, guides, Bulletins and Journals from the last six decades. The full contents of over 1400 out-of-print titles may be read online, searched, or downloaded as a PDF for free. Publications still in-print may be previewed and fully searched online through a link to Google Books.

Each publication’s unique record includes links to artworks in The Met Collection that are featured in the book. These connections allow readers to discover recent scholarship and further resources on each object's Collection page. Publication records also include the title's description, table of contents, author bios, reviews, awards, information on any accompanying exhibitions, links to related essays on the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, links to related titles by author and subject, and links to facilitate access to physical copies of the publication, including library resources such as WATSONLINE and WorldCat .

MetPublications is constantly updated, with new publications added every month. Please check back frequently for updates, new titles, and additional books available with full-text online.

Texts are provided for personal, educational use. For questions, commercial text permission requests, or to report issues, please contact metpublications@metmuseum.org.

MetPublications is made possible by Hunt & Betsy Lawrence.

The Met's Publishing Program

From its founding in 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has published exhibition catalogues, collection catalogues, and guides to the collection. Today it is one of the leading museum publishers worldwide, and its award-winning books consistently set the standard for scholarship, production values, and elegant design.

Each year, The Met produces more than twenty publications around The Met’s exhibitions and collections. In addition to catalogues, guides, amd digital-first publications featured on this platform, The Met also produces periodicals such as the quarterly Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin and the annual Metropolitan Museum Journal .

The Met's print and online publications program continues to expand in scope in order to reach the broadest possible audience, thus fulfilling the institution's mission to increase public awareness of and appreciation for art through insightful scholarly discussions and diverse Museum voices writing on works of art, art history, and especially the Museum's collection and exhibitions.
